Think back to a time and place in your life where you felt your most confident. A place where you felt on top of the world and you felt as if you could accomplish anything. What made you feel this way? Was it the encouragement you received from loved ones and family members? What gave you your confidence?
As I sit at my computer thinking about all of these things I can remember one person in my life that gave me confidence to do most of the things that I have accomplished in my life. This person made me feel like I could conquer and do anything. I called her my biggest fan. She would encourage me as far as she felt I could go. What I also notice is that when I wanted to do some things that she feared doing herself, she held back her push for me to move forward. During that time, I didn’t understand why she would hold back the encouragement to move forward. This would hurt me because I looked forward to her push. I couldn’t understand why she felt the way she did. Why her encouraging words would fall short when I wanted to branch out into unknown territories or when I wanted to move past my insecurities and fears to do things that would cause me to face them.
It was not until I was older that I began to understand that she herself had those same fears and insecurities. She had never had the courage to face those things and her fear of it kept her from giving me the encouragement I needed. One day after I had written my first book about my life and the events that took place, she called me. The sound of her voice was sweet, and I could tell she had been crying. She began to tell me her life story and all the things she had been through as a little girl and as a woman. She spoke of her fears and insecurities. She spoke of her hurts and pain. She spoke of her inability to let go of her past. That day she told all. She said that it was because of what I had written that gave her the courage to revisit her past and the ability to talk about it. Although she felt that she was too old to try and attempt some of the things she had once feared, that day she gave me all the encouragement she had once held back and poured into me a wealth of knowledge that I will hold dear for as long as I live on this earth.
Don’t let your fears and insecurities keep you from living the life you always dreamed of living. Don’t let it hold you hostage and keep you from pursuing your dreams. I encourage you to start living your life to the fullest and make the most out of the time you have on this earth.
