~Growing In Wisdom – Week #7 ~

Learning to trust the Lord is something we all have to strive to do. Putting our trust in someone and relinquishing control is something that will always be a struggle for most. What I have learned through my first year of covenant is trusting God is important to survival. The entire time before my covenant my life was full of inconsistencies. When I learned to trust God I was able to be consistent in my endeavors because my trust was no longer in my abilities or skills. I learned to depend on God and trust him in every area of my life.

Proverbs 3:1-5

My child, never forget the things I have taught you.

Store my commands in your heart.

2If you do this, you will live many years,

and your life will be satisfying.

3Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!

Tie them around your neck as a reminder.

Write them deep within your heart.

4Then you will find favor with both God and people,

and you will earn a good reputation.

5Trust in the Lord with all your heart;

do not depend on your own understanding.

Take Action:For this week and the weeks to follow, let's begin to trust God to see us through difficult situations. Let's consult God for understanding during times when we need help the most. No matter what the situation learn to trust God.

Some people have more insight than good judgment; others have more understanding than common sense. But we can pray for all phases of wisdom and take the steps to develop them.

~ Growing in Wisdom – Week #6 ~

As we go through the book of Proverbs we will continue to hear/read the word wisdom. According to Wikipedia: Wisdom is the judicious study and application of knowledge. It is a deep understanding and realization of people, things, events or situations, resulting in the ability to apply perceptions, judgments and actions in keeping with this understanding. It often requires control of one's emotional reactions (the "passions") so that universal principles, reason and knowledge prevail to determine one's actions. Wisdom is also the comprehension of what is true coupled with optimum judgment as to action.

We see that wisdom is the state of being wise.

In Proverbs 4: 5-7

5Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

In this passage of scripture we must work to get wisdom, an understanding. In all thy getting, get understanding is a verse we often quote. To sum it up it is telling us that we should get an understanding – strive to gain wisdom in everything we do.

Take Action: This week let's strive to get an understanding in everything – in every area of our lives. On our jobs – get an understanding, at home with our families – get understanding, where ever we go and with whomever we encounter, get understanding and strive to be wise.

~Growing In Wisdom – Week #5~

Some time ago I was feeling as though things in my life were not going well. I had begun my second year of my prayer covenant with the Lord, but things seemed off. During the first year of my covenant God dealt with the me on the inside. He truly did a work in me and stripped away things that once kept me in the background. For this Second year I knew the Lord wanted to do more to complete my spiritual and natural makeover. When I woke up one morning feeling like I had sinned, even though I had not (at least I thought, I had been consistently praying and reading my word), I asked God what was wrong. In a quiet, still voice he said, "The sin of an undisciplined life." I thought wow! I began to go over areas of my life in my mind and realized that I was not disciplined in so many areas.

Being spiritually together is not just about a consistent prayer life or consistently reading his word, it is being disciplined in spiritual things as well as natural things. It is growing in wisdom – heeding the words of the wise.

Proverbs 1:1-7 (NLT)

The Purpose of Proverbs

1These are the proverbs of Solomon, David's son, king of Israel.

2Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline,

to help them understand the insights of the wise.

3Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives,

to help them do what is right, just, and fair.

4These proverbs will give insight to the simple,

knowledge and discernment to the young.

5Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.

Let those with understanding receive guidance

6by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables,

the words of the wise and their riddles.

7Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge,

but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

 

Take Action: This week, let's heed the words of the wise, work on being disciplined in areas of our lives that we feel lack discipline.

~ Growing in Wisdom – Week #4 ~

Proverbs 2:9-10 (NLT): Then you will understand what is right, just and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.

Wisdom is gained through a steady course of growing. In order to become wise there are four things we must do and take in account. The fourth and last one we are going to discuss for this passage is:

 4) When we make mistakes, we should take the time to learn from them and improve.

Last week we talked about avoiding situations that will cause us to make the wrong decision and fall into moral pitfalls. I know that this is not always an easy thing and there is always a potential for mistakes. The most important thing to understand that when you do make a mistake be quick to ask for forgiveness, learn from your mistakes and find away to avoid this type of mistake in the future (work to improve). No matter who you are mistakes are bound to take place, but learning your lesson and finding ways to improve is definitely growing in wisdom.

Take Action: This week, if a mistake occurs, let's be quick to ask for forgiveness, write down the lesson learned and take steps to improve.
